Frederick Childe Hassam, or Childe Hassam, was an American Impressionist painter known for his urban and coastal scenes. He played a significant role in introducing Impressionism to American collectors, dealers, and museums. Hassam produced over 3,000 paintings, including oils, watercolors, etchings, and lithographs. He was born in Boston in 1859 and showed an early interest in art. Despite limited formal training, Hassam studied in Europe and was influenced by French Impressionism. He returned to the United States in 1889 and continued to evolve his technique towards Impressionism. Hassam was part of the group known as "The Ten," a collective of American Impressionists. He exhibited his works in various shows and received recognition for his art.
